about the team
Before sharing any information there's a common misunderstanding we'd like to clear; there is no skill level requirement to join our team. Our club name "Climbing Team" carries an intimidating but incorrect impression of what we are and what we do. We are all just people who like to climb. The Climbing Team aims to enable an environment that supports both casual and competitive climbers. To this end, within the Climbing Team exists two groups: recreation and varsity. Each group has different practice times, durations, frequency, intensity, and location. When you sign up for the team and pay your dues, you are automatically placed into the recreational team. This group represents the majority of members because it is the precursor to varsity, which is capacity constrained. It is more casual on paper with two weekly practices at the UW's Intramural Activity Center (IMA). However, the goal of this group is simply to provide a fun environment for climbers regardless of where they fall on the competitive spectrum. Activities are of relative low intensity, designed firstly to cultivate the fitness of newer members and secondly to maintain the health of more experienced climbers. Our foremost desire is to provide an accessible door through which you can peek into the depths of this sport. If you want to join a group of likeminded people who enjoy climbing, potentially make some friends, and de-stress for a few hours every week, this group is for you.
